Admiral report claims up 39% post lockdown

Admiral Insurance have issued a report on the main causes of road accidents arising from the behaviour of distracted drivers underneath a headline that accident damage claims have risen 39% in the two weeks post lockdown. They don't make clear whether this is for the entire industry or just for Admiral.

Clearly, reports of increased vehicle usage have featured in the daily 5pm Coronavirus press conferences hosted by ministers but this announcement is the first from an insurer that increased road use has resulted in a surge in the number of accidents.

Admiral attribute the rise in accidents to the fact that many motorists are returning to the road after period of inactivity and so they are less observant than they might otherwise be. Whatever the cause, it is probably a welcome sign for the credit hire and vehicle repair industry if the traffic volumes continue to increase.
