Winns win Claims Management Company of the Year

A host of companies and professionals were recognised as the insurance claims sector’s best and brightest at the virtual Personal Injury Awards 2020 on December 1st.

Horwich Cohen Coghlan, Winns and Hugh James were among the winners announced during the virtual ceremony on claimsmag.co.uk, where the sector celebrated the successes of the past 12 months and its dedication to serving and supporting clients during these difficult times.

Horwich Cohen Coghlan took home both Claimant Team of the Year and Defendant Team of the Year, cultivating a strong team that spearheads a tremendous service for claimants while demonstrating an impressive record in handling disputes of an international, complex or unusual nature on behalf of defendants.

Winns won Claims Management Company of the Year. The judges were impressed with the firm’s innovation and strong use of technology, particularly artificial intelligence.

Hugh James was recognised as Clinical Negligence Team of the Year, prevailing in an incredibly competitive category. The firm demonstrated exceptional teamwork, with its lawyers holistic in their approach to casework and creatively supported during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Of the individuals to be recognised at this year’s Personal Injury Awards, Stephen Webber of Hugh James won Clinical Negligence Lawyer of the Year, completing his firm’s domination of this practice area.

Like his firm, Webber stood out in a strong category, by contributing so much to the personal injury sector, including outstanding work on important cases and extensive pro bono work. He was also recognised as a technically gifted lawyer.

Irwin Mitchell took home the most awards on the night, picking up Marketing Campaign of the Year, Outstanding Case of the Year and Personal Injury Trust Provider of the Year, and the firm’s Alice Hall winning Young Achiever of the Year.

The evening’s non-lawyer categories were equally competitive. Corporé won Rehab Provider of the Year for delivering a crucial service in the aftermath of a high-profile event, while MLA was recognised as the Medicolegal Provider of the Year for showing great customer service in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In his speech during the virtual Personal Injury Awards, Matthew Maxwell Scott, executive director at the Association of Consumer Support Organisations, and chair of the independent judging panel, paid tribute to the personal injury sector and how quickly it adapted to the pandemic.

He said: “As the awards entries showed the judges, there are firms and practitioners out there doing brilliant and innovative work on behalf of injured people, their families and their communities. Time after time we see professionals going above and beyond expectations and bringing hope and comfort to their clients when they need it the most.”

While individuals and businesses continue to adapt to the new normal, find out what the independent judging panel had to say about each and every winner at this year’s Personal Injury Awards.
